Solving the minimum-weighted coloring problem

چکیده
Weighted coloring is a generalization of the wellknown vertex (unweighted) coloring for which a number of exact algorithms have been presented in the literature. We are not aware of any optimal method specifically designed for the minimum-weighted coloring problem on arbitrary graphs. Only a few heuristics have been developed with the goal of finding tighter upper bounds for the maximum-weighted clique problem. Moreover, as shown in the paper, a straightforward reduction of a weighted instance into an unweighted one permits us to solve only very small instances. In this paper, we present a branch-and-bound algorithm for the weighted case capable of solving random graphs of up to 90 vertices for any edge density with integer weights uniformly drawn from the range [1, . . . ,10]. Likewise, we have used properly modified benchmark instances borrowed from vertex coloring as a further test bed for our algorithm. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Capacity Inverse Minimum Cost Flow Problem under the Weighted Hamming Distances
Given an instance of the minimum cost flow problem, a version of the corresponding inverse problem, called the capacity inverse problem, is to modify the upper and lower bounds on arc flows as little as possible so that a given feasible flow becomes optimal to the modified minimum cost flow problem. The modifications can be measured by different distances. In this article, we consider the capac...
متن کاملGreedy Algorithms for the Minimum Sum Coloring Problem
In this paper we present our study of greedy algorithms for solving the minimum sum coloring problem (MSCP). We propose two families of greedy algorithms for solving MSCP, and suggest improvements to the two greedy algorithms most often referred to in the literature for solving the graph coloring problem (GCP): DSATUR [1] and RLF [2].
متن کاملTwo Upper Bounds on the Chromatic Number
Processor cache memory management is a challenging issue as it deeply impact performances and power consumption of electronic devices. It has been shown that allocating data structures to memory for a given application (as MPEG encoding, filtering or any other signal processing application) can be modeled as a minimum k-weighted graph coloring problem, on the so-called conflict graph. The graph...
متن کاملFully Fuzzy Transportation Problem
Transportation problem is a linear programming which considers minimum cost for shipping a product from some origins to other destinations such as from factories to warehouse, or from a warehouse to supermarkets. To solve this problem simplex algorithmis utilized. In real projects costs and the value of supply and demands are fuzzy numbers and it is expected that optimal solutions for determini...
متن کاملOn Weighted Bipartite Edge Coloring
We study weighted bipartite edge coloring problem, which is a generalization of two classical problems: bin packing and edge coloring. This problem has been inspired from the study of Clos networks in multirate switching environment in communication networks. In weighted bipartite edge coloring problem, we are given an edge-weighted bipartite multigraph G = (V,E) with weights w : E → [0, 1]. Th...
